Feeling Fruity.....

One thing I've learned from gardening......nature doesn't wait on you. If you procrastinate it might cost you! I'm definitely ahead of last years spring/summer garden, (which was my first) but I still didn't start when I wanted. And my tomatoes took forever to sprout....I think because of the chilly nights. I brought them inside most nights but.........I forgot a couple of nights as well. Dummy. Anyway this is what's going on in my garden:

I love tomatoes. Definitely my favorite garden veggie. This season I'm growing about 70 plants which consist of Black Krim (boss lady's favorite), Italian Giant Beefsteak, Early Girl, Rutgers, Red Brandywine, Black, Black Sea Man, Yellow Brandywine, Dixie Golden, Georgia Streak, Lemon Drop (cherry), Velvet Red (cherry), Isis Candy (cherry), and Chocolate Cherry.

The Broc is coming along very well.

Lettuce & Beets are just fine.

And the new editions to the garden...... a little mini-orchard that includes a Dorsett Golden Apple tree, Anna Apple tree, Pineapple Orange tree, Rhode Red Valencia Orange tree, Persian Lime, Eureka Lemon, Sunburst Tangerine, and a Meiwa Sweet Kumquat which I have devoured about 50 of the little fruits so far!

  5. Nice tomato seedling shot, you are good with the camera. The garden is looking very nice. I can't wait until my yard is at the same stage.

You have the start of a very well stocked fruit orchard, I bet you can't wait to start harvesting from it. I must say the citrus looks better suited to your yard then mine.

  7. Your beets look great. They give me trouble. Can you give me details on when you planted them--direct sow? What variety are they? Any fungicide applications? I need to find out what I am doing wrong. I hope you can help.

  8. Hey Christine, I believe they are the "Red Ace Hybrid" I got from R.H. Shumway's. It's only the second time I've grown beets myself and the first time was a disaster for me. This second time I started them inside...not direct sown....and I made sure that the soil in the bed I was planting them was very soft & loose. I also watered them alot more than the last time....and they seem to be doing much better!

  9. Those kumquats look great. When I lived in CA I had a old tree (grafted) that had tangerines on one side, kumquats in the middle and I think the oranges from the graft tree on the other side(they never tasted great). I used to make tons of kumquat jam, yummy. : ) In Alaska now so I can only dream of those kumquats. Enjoy them!

  15. It is still acidic and can damage the enamel so don't go crazy) and it doesn't include milk which means you won't be increasing your cholesterol or taking in more fat (or using up too much milk which can get a little expensive after a while).

  16. your garden should be near a water outlet. If your garden does not have fertile and well-drained soil, you should alter it and make it well-drained.

  17. Lemon verbena was given its name for its aroma, and it is a name that has persisted. One wonders if the citizens of South America call our lemon something like "verbena fruit" in return.
