Back at it........

All is well. Just took a little time off to take care of some personal stuff going on in my life........mostly business & a few mission trips to Nicaragua & Honduras again. I felt a little guilty not posting pics from my garden and I think that added to my absence as well.

I'll post some pics of the garden tomorrow, but it's basically done for the season. So much rain! I think the first week in June we got 14" of rain in 5 days....I don't know if you know, but tomatoes don't like 14" of rain in 5 days! We did get a very good harvest this year (despite the rain) and I really pushed my vegetarian wife to brink with all the tomatoes we harvested. But she did keep up! I will say that this summer was our most wasteful garden because we grew so much and had so many new veggies that we didn't exactly know how to deal with the volume. So our goal going forward is to learn and practice canning & freezing methods to handle the bounty! We actually just bought our first canning kit last week and are hoping to wear it out!

The great thing about Florida is that our 2nd growing season in the Fall is just as good as the northerners Summer growing season.............. and so I'm starting to plant my tomatoes & peppers for the Fall garden tomorrow. Is that awesome or what!

Pictures to follow shortly.

  4. No you are not the only one...I love seeds. I'm always amazed when they sprout, grow and produce a fruit, veggie or flower.
My little corner of the world is experiencing a hotter and drier summer than normal. We are calling it "the heatwave of a lifetime". And..my veggies, what's left of them are suffering. Anyway, I'm glad to see you back and I look forward to reading about your fall garden.

  5. Margaret- What's weird is that it's been a lot cooler for Florida this summer. We've had lots of days that didn't get over 85 & some cooler mornings....which is unusual for Florida. I know there's still some summer left, but.....it just feels cooler.

  6. Dennis! your alive. Glade to hear things are well and that you have been busy doing your mission work. Those seeds I sent to your business address made it back to my mail box, not sure what happen there. If you would like me to send them again just send me the correct address. If you don't have any room for anything that is fine as well. The beans you sent are doing well although I did have some rot problems this spring. I only ended up with two plants so I am going to grow them on for seed this year.

  8. Yes, forgot to mention that one. It is going on eight feet high and just starting to set fruit after its late start. The weather has been poor here, many many days in the mid 60's and lots of cloud/rain. Thankfully the weather is starting to be much warmer and the warm season plants are responding accordingly. Thanks again for the seeds!
