Freezer Burn!

It was 22 degrees yesterday, 27 degrees today and we have a little damage. It's my first winter garden and I thought the cold crops were indestructible. I was wrong. Here's a couple pics.....

I know this has nothing to do with cold weather, but I hate it when this happens.
Notice my little radishes coming up.

    That cabbage should take the frost like a trooper. Nice garden, I'd love to be growing anything outside right now.

    Cabbage will be fine, I am in Tallahassee, it was 19 yesterday morning, I would not make it up North.

    Potatoes + Frost = Not a chance.
    Replant new Potatoes after last frost of the season.

    Hi CG yes we get frosts here but if you get down to 22 then your still a bit colder than here.
    Some of the surrounding areas will get that but not me.
    Re:- Potatoes.. They might shoot underground, though very slowly, but if any shoots make it above ground then get hit with a frost it will kill of the whole growing process.

    Your cabbage surely looks pretty. You've gotten lots done since you started this year. This was my first year (2008 spring) to try vegetable gardening, too. It has been lots of fun ... and lots of learning. Glad to find another Florida gardener.

    Didn't know that about cabbage. . . to depressed to deal with the carnage in my own garden. My husband found me by the back door this morning, looking a the yard and wimpering.

    Meems- "lots of work".....uuummm......yes! But with blogs like Skippy's veggie garden, the garden desk, etc. it sure helps. Love your blog, wish I would have seen it sooner! Great photos by the way.

    We could dig all day installing pipe in the Florida sun , carry a 300lb tub to your 2nd floor bathroom and party afterword and then do it again the next day, and the next day, and then the next day. Tough, smart & tan. Manly men.

    However, manure isn't a complete well-balanced fertilizer so it is advisable to add a rock phosphate and potash.
